This year’s convention will feature several dynamic guests, including constitutional scholar and former Libertarian Presidential candidate Michael Badnarik, popular Survivor contestant and mentor for troubled teens Rupert Boneham, and more.

In addition to guest speakers and training sessions, the LPIN will elect party officers.

The convention will be held at the Best Western Hotel and Conference Center located at 444 Pine Lake Avenue in LaPorte, Indiana. Register for the convention here.

Folks who work out of their homes may share in questioning the plan. The ordinance prohibits home-based workers from conducting business before 7:00 AM and from receiving deliveries from traditional carriers like UPS and FedEx. Whether you’re a web designer, eBay entrepreneur, or barber, everyone’s subjected to the same restrictions.

The next LaPorte Plan Commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 8:00 pm. A thumbs-up from the Plan Commission will put it before the LaPorte City Council in time for their March 21 meeting.

For example, area home builders (and the LaPorte County Surveyor) are concerned about the provision mandating a minimum of 30 acres to build a house.

Heavily featured in the article are LPLP Treasurer Greg Kelver and LPIN Vice Chair Dan Drexler. Kelver, a business owner himself, questioned the ability of businesses to expand in light of new land use designations. And Drexler pointed out that the many people in LaPorte County who work from home would have to deal with many overbearing requirements, such as not working after 11:00 pm or not having more than one customer in their home at one time.

Also worth noting is the response of the consulting firm who put the ordinance together that the ordinance wouldn’t be enforced all that closely.
