There is an old saying in politics," You can't beat somebody with nobody". As the D & R party tighten control of their primaries, the LP ballot status is fast becoming the only way to challenge the party of incumbency. The Secretary of State race is the most important election on the Indiana Ballot in 2010.

Not only does it display a certain naiveté on his part for having faith that we wouldn't end up with a new Constitution guaranteeing everything from a Right to Health Care to a mandate towards nebulous ideas like social justice but it also displays that he doesn't have a realistic understanding of how our government works (or worse yet, that he knows the idea is dead in the water but is mentioning it purely for reasons of rhetoric). For one to expect that the Constitution will ever be ratified through the Convention method under Article V which require two-thirds of the states calling for a Convention and then ratification of the proposed Amendments by three-fourths of the state legislatures was a difficult task when there were only thirteen states. Now that there are fifty states, it is a virtual impossibility. You are right though, a true Constitutional Convention held today would be terrifying. I would begin making plans to move out of country immediately. :)

Excellent commentary, Sean. The way I explain it to people is...your right to bear arms ENDS at my property line. My employer has a similar policy, I just choose to ignore it. If he wants to fire me for violating it, I really don't want to work for him anyway!

I hope to see you at the convention.

I was young when realized that I was as a citizen and I had the same rights as everyone around me. I had choices and the outcome of those could have a good effect or a bad one. Basic common sense as my dad said. I wish that our State, local and federal goverment worked with common sense, they obviously have never had to balance their own check book (when it was empty, they stop spending). I wish that they would value my rights and not expect me to live under a different set of standars as they live. I like to be a positive person, I hat to critisize, but at this time its hard to not be critical when you see our "leaders" not working as a team. They are organized to the point where it is Republican against Democrat or Democrat against Republican no matter what that individual feels. In a nut shell, they are starting to suck as leaders and act like back yard bullies (like Stinky). This is what happens with too much government, too many chiefs and not enough Libertarians!
