MICHIGAN CITY — A candidate forum designed to introduce Michigan City residents to La Porte County candidates included many questions about county governance but the mule deer population and marijuana were the hot topics at Barker Middle School Thursday night.

The League of Women Voters of La Porte County sponsored the event at which candidates vying for offices ranging from state representative to the La Porte County Council sat side by side on stage.

Although a League member moderated the discussion (and had to take the microphone from candidates who exceeded their allotted time) the audience of about 50 people generated the questions.

…..Along with Democrats and Republicans, two Libertarian candidates had a chance to introduce themselves. Andrew Wolf, who is running for state representative against incumbent Scott Pelath and Mike Sloan who is running against Milsap and Republican Keith Harris for county commissioner, both attended.

The third-party candidates told the audience that they represent an alternative to the main party candidates.

Wolf suggested a vote for him would be a vote to “Stop the insanity.”
